Hi! My name is Micah Elliott. I’m a software developer, Linux system administrator, and just recently an entrepreneur (and seemingly a non-conformist). I took the plunge in August 2008 to break out of corporate life and start up my own venture. This is a pretty exciting time for me, as I’m taking a big leap of faith to pursue a career path where I hope to find meaning and create big change. I’m recording the interesting pieces of the journey on this blog.
My not-yet-launched startup, uGraph (How are you feeling?), also has a blog that will get most of the health-related content that comes from my team and me. We’re presently a team of five developers, and I’m filling the role of Lead Geek. I’ve connected this team simply by attending local hacking events and meeting developers. I highly recommend getting involved in local technology interest groups if you’re looking to build a team. I’m an INTJ, but have recently learned to step out of my shell and make a constant effort to meet people and ask questions. We’re primarily using Open Source tools to build the site, back-end, and infrastructure, including Python, Django, PostgreSQL, Trac, Mercurial, Ubuntu, plus lots of wonderful smaller things that are easily taken for granted. For our present needs, we’re proudly relying on Webfaction for hosting.
I like to read. If you’re a publisher needing a review, send me your books and I’ll probably read them and send you a thoughtful review. If you’re just someone who gets some value from my articles, you’re welcome to buy me a book or something; see my Amazon Wishlist.
I’m highly involved with my family of five, my church, and music (guitar, ukulele, banjo). I’m also a native Oregonian, and I love it here! I won’t be writing much about those things, but they are an important part of my life and need to be mentioned.
If you’ve gotten this far I’d love to get connected with you. Have a look at my contact page.
